Try Walking in our Shoes!
The seventh graders have been busy painting and practicing shading. With our shoes as inspiration, the students each created a rendoring, or drawing, of their shoe. We studied line drawing and proportions. Then some students chose to paint them with metallic watercolor paints, while others chose pencil and shading materials. These shoes turned out wonderfully! And so reflective of each student's personality. Great Job 7th Graders!!
Partial Portraits
Drawing a picture of yourself is one of the most challenging tasks an artist can face, literally! But the Eighth graders took on the challenge. These classes used pocket size or small mirror in order to look at themselves as they drew their portrait. Then they decorated their backgrounds in a collage style with symbols or objects that are representative of them. This was a challenge and a favorite for many of the students!
Illinois Department of Transportation Poster Contest
These posters were selected to be sent to a statewide contest with the Illinois Department of Transportation. Each of the posters have different pictures and include the slogan, See Orange, Slow Down, Save Lives! Each student in 6th grade participated in the contest. Great Job Sixth Graders!

Shading by 6th Grade
What makes art interesting? If you said composistion you may be onto something!! The sixth graders looked at how to make ordinary objects look interesting and "artful". They made unique pictures of average school supplies and practiced shading at the same time. Posted here are some great examples of student work. Keep it up 6th graders!

8th Grade Clay Masks
Everyone in 8th grade made a clay mask. The students learned the basics about rolling a clay slab and additive sculpting. Each of the masks are fashioned after tribal African masks. Then as a final touch the students added decorative fibers such as beads and rafia. This is a great collection of colorful masks. We hope you enjoy them!
6th Grade Mask Designs
We have a very talented group of 6th graders joining us in the Junior High. Posted here are pictures of what they have been working on in art class. First the students looked at images of African Masks. We looked for symbols, patterns and details that would make each mask unique. Then, each student created their own. Each of the masks are colorful and very unique. Great Job 6th Graders.
You can see all our mask designs at the Fine Arts Festival--Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 7pm. See you then.
